I'm an aspiring cartoonist, still trying to figure out how to maybe try and make a living at it. Wanted to be a cartoonist for as long as I can remember; got sidetracked in college by well-meaning advisors steering me toward a more practical career path. Somehow I ended up eluding both paths and studied film.
About ten years ago I realized I really don't have the right personality type for a film career and turned back toward my first love, cartooning. I have a special fondness for the comic strip, but really I'm just generally interested in all permutations of the comical arts.
Right now I've got a web-comic going (www.askrachelcomic.com) and several other projects that I'm working on besides.
This site was recommended to me recently. I live in Sacramento, CA and have a strip called "Been There".
I am working to get out of my own way to write better and more consistent.
Hi,I was surfing the 'net for a great cartoonist social network. So,far this one has been informative with solutions to issues of my concern. My intents to make new long lasting working-relations/friendships,as well as share my advice to newcomers.I'm a cartoonist for http://theundergroundsite.com and like our tag says,"we're not your average" online Christian magazine. We report poignant issues on the recession and judicial appointees of our president.
Well Lee are you saying that you have more hits recently? If that be the case it could be the possibility of members here putting this link on their pages. I do that: TOON TALKS. I would say this is a great idea, what do you all think?
My guess too would be aspiring cartoonists , cartoonists and some who are not into cartoons but wanting to know more coming to visit.
I must say I enjoy coming here for the opinions. Thanks
Bennyloh
I'm relatively new here. I'm working to launch a web comic based on my comic book, Brilliant Boy, and I've been scouring the web in search of info. I appreciate the knowledge I've gained from this site. Thanks, all!
I'm Josh. I'm new here. I found out about this forum through the Comics Coast to Coast podcast. I'm here to soak up as much info about creating comic strips as possible. I'm currently working on a submission package to send to syndicates and all the info here is very helpful.
I have always loved reading the comics page since my childhood, but it was not until a few months ago that I started drawing them. I have always written comedy and fiction and gotten great feedback, but I never even considered using the comic form. I actually started drawing single panel comics on the white-board at my desk job (just out of boredom)and my co-workers enjoyed them so much they started asking me to draw on THEIR white-boards. Even on my last day at that job, two of my co-workers asked me to draw them a comic on paper so they could put them in a frame in their office. Positive feedback is definitely a bitch for me. If enough people tell me they like something, I pursue it.
I am definitely a better writer than an artist, but I can only get better the more I practice (I actually have a 4 hour block of time set aside today to JUST DRAW!! YAY!).
I'm very glad I found this community. It seems to be a mix of pros and n00bs like myself, and even some that fall into that strange in-between place, but everyone seems very receptive and flame wars are kept to a minimum.
But, now that I've babbled on for too long, I need to go get a hand-truck and an oil change!
