hmmm, sorry but I actually think the first one is better. The ipod, the makeup, the smirky face...those are things that I find unappealing. Obviously its all subjective, but appeal is more about balance, proportion, and other things that our eyes ...

Lucky for me I found ToonTalk and after great advice, I think Beatrix looks a hell of a lot better! What do you think?

This is a follow-up on HOW APPEALING DO YOU FIND THIS COW?. First off, I'm thrilled with the advice I got so far! After taking all advice and tons more of observing, I think this cow's tons better than the first. I still need to add a setting and...

Ted, thank you thank you thank you! For your time and the great advice. I'm so pleased I found this site! I'm thrilled about your first impression of her. I'm really glad to be able to work on her further without giving her the boot altogether OR ...

Ha ha ha ha ha! Thank you Leann! I didn't even think of the milkshake song. It's quite funny. I agree. She needs a setting. I'd love to put her in all the settings you mentioned. Thanks a mil! You made my day.

First impression: I like her. I like the flirty expression. I like the overall S-curve in the pose, counterpointed by the curve of the tail. Nice use of negative space. I'm guessing that you were going for a "boom-chaka-boom-chaka-boom-boom-boom" ...

**singing** 'cause I'm a booooovine, B-0-V-I-N-E! You lookin' at me! Or should it be "My milk shake brings all the bulls to the yard?" She's shakin' what her mama gave her that's for sure! Maybe adding a setting...is she on stage, or showing of...

Newbie on ToonTalk

Howdie! I'm new and in desperate search of useful tips, any advice, crit, sarcasm, op- and pessimism to improve my toons in the time that's not consumed by my 9 to 5 artist/ illustration job of the local newspaper.

Hope to meet and greet you soon!!

Xmas card - old or new?

Wondering if I should try a totally different take on last year’s Xmas card, OR go with the same style… Now that we’re married, I’m not so sure a couple in red spandex will be quite as cute as last year’s.

Thank you!

I use color pencils. I had tried using ink in the past but the pens really didn't give me the effect I liked. I recently bought some better quality pens of various points and one has a brush tip that I'm really liking. And, as you said, it adds a good deal of drama to my drawings that help make them pop. Can't remember if I had uploaded them here yet or not but my most recent ones, the snails around a camp fire (one playing sax) and a troll were done using the brush pen. The watercolor wash is an interesting idea as well and I'll be experimenting with that too.

Glad you liked the snail story. I thought it would like to put that into a kiddie book form, and maybe even add more little snail tales. That poem was written by someone else who was joking around and I'd have to get his permission to be able to publish it.

Sadly, in spite of my verbosity on comments (like this) writing is my weak point. I keep nagging at my sister to collaborate on a kiddie story as she's the writer in the family but her style and interests are more along the lines of the X-Files and Dean Koontz etc. (hard to do kiddie stuff like that) LOL

Again it's good to meet you and thank you for the tips. :-)
